Midweek Services

Please be reminded once again that June is a trial month for mid week services at both congregations. The services will be less formal. Casual attire is welcome. The liturgy and sermon will be those of the coming Sunday so that communion will be celebrated the service before the following communion Sunday. In Emmetsburg, these services will be held at 6pm Thursdays beginning June 5th. West Bend midweek services will be on Fridays at 6pm starting June 6th. Attendance at the first of these services will determine whether or not they continue.

2008 Graduates Recognized

The 2008 graduates will be recognized during the regular Sunday morning worship on May 18th. Seniors from both congregations will be present at both services. The West Bend graduates are Laura Banwart, Lindsey Schmidt and Kari Zinnel. The Emmetsburg graduates are Anna Chapman, Kyle Janssen, Matthew Merideth and Chad Metz.

Summer Envelope Offerings

Members are asked to remember their church offerings during the Summer. In proportion to the gifts God has first given and according to one’s means, we pray the Holy Spirit to move His people to be faithful also in the financial support of their congregation.

2009 Preschool in Emmetsburg

Spread the word! There will be two preschool classes next year and there are openings in both the morning and the afternoon classes. Class will be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Pot Luck in West Bend

The May pot luck will be at noon on Friday the 16th. Come and bring a friend.

After Worship Fellowship in Emmetsburg

The after worship fellowship in Emmetsburg will be Sunday May 18th with the education committee serving as host.

Emmetsburg Nursery

Plans are to provide a nursery on Sundays during worship beginning in June.  If you would like to help out or if you have questions please get in touch with Nicole Sanders.

West Bend Issachar Committee

Two topics have come up at Issachar committee meetings that members may wish to think over. One is a summer outdoor service. This has been done in the past and there may be interest to do it this year. The other is a trip to the Albert City Thrashing Celebration the first week in August. The committee is discussing bus transportation and extending an invitation to Emmetsburg and the community.

Not Maintenance but Mission

From the Winter issue of Concordia Seward’s Issues in Christian Education, there is room in this newsletter for four of the six questions given for congregations to ask themselves. Using the many and gracious gifts God has given St Paul and Peace, these are four good questions for our two modern day churches to address in love for God and each other. - Not “How do we do church better?” but “How do we reconvert from “churchianity” to Christianity? Not “How do we grow this church”, but “How do we transform our community.” Not “How do we develop church members?” but “How do we develop followers of Jesus?” Not “How do we turn members into ministers?” but “How do we turn members into missionaries?”
